Iamgold mine project in French Guiana rejected

The Iamgold mine project at Kaw mountain in French Guiana has been rejected by the President de la République française announced David Martinon, spokesperson of the Presidence. This happens after a third expertise was launched in French Guiana in early december 2007. Dr. Pierre-Michel Forget (Département Ecologie et gestion de la Biodiversité) and Dr. Odile Poncy (Département Systématique et Evolution), were nominated to prepare a report on the diversity and the conservation of the environment of the Kaw mountain. Dr Forget is current President of  the ATBC and Dr Poncy is the focal point of the Flora of the Guianas in France. See Symposium organized by Hammond et al. at ATBC2008. Read Mongabay.com
