Intense hurricane season in the Carribean Sea/Mexican Gulf coincides with the severe dry season in the Guiana Shield. As predicted by NOAA experts in early August, sea surface temperatures in key areas of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea are warmer than normal, and led to two category 5 hurricanes within two weeks.
