Until today, you could buy meat of Amazonian tapir (Tapirus terrestris) in supermarket and eat "fricassée de maïpouri" (local name) at restaurants in Guyane. A prefectoral order (in french) dated 23 July (announced today in the newpaper 'France Guyane' dated 22 August) prohibits sell of tapir bushmeat as well as that of three large birds, i.e. curassow (Crax alector), trumpeter (Psophia crepitans) and marail (Penelope marail).
