Welcome to a new Website Biological Diversity of the Guiana Shield Program (BDG)
The Botany Department of the Smithsonian Institution is pleased to announce that the public website is now hosting the newly developed effort of the Biological Diversity of the Guiana Shield program to make collection data available on line. We now have available all of the 1400 plant types held in the US National Herbarium collection that were gathered in the three Guianas (Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana). The Venezuelan material (1900) is being worked on now and will be added in June. You can view the location in either Google Map or Google Earth (the latter requires having Google Earth installed on your machine). If you are new to Google Earth please see the instructions on our website.
